Training News August & September 2006 |
August 1, 2006:
Well. I took the weekend off to go back to Bay from OU to swim in a
2-mile open water race but it turns out the race was cancelled due to
the fact that there was massive flooding in the Cleveland area and the
bacteria level was high enough to give anyone ecoli that just looked at
the water. I've been trying to get out on the bike or do some running
but because of the heat its hard to get some solid training in. Lake
St. Mary's in 2 weeks.
August 14, 2006:
This weekend was successful. I swam (illegally) roughly 6 miles and it took 2 hours and 10 minutes (3 mile/hr pace) which isn't too shabby. Anyway, the lake was calm, cool, and beautiful sunday morning when I swam and there was hardly any boat traffic, plus no signs of the water polo at 9am. After the fact, I had a little soreness in the upper back but nothing major. Shout outs to everyone who made it happen: Brad- thanks for trying to get the permit, Phil and Mom- thanks for the kayaking, Capt. Uncle Brian- thanks for driving the boat, Matt- thanks for swimming 10 minutes hungover with me, Dad- thanks for being the grill master, Anna- thanks for being my Go.
August 20, 2006:
I have yet to swim since last weekend and I've switched to mostly running to get ready forthe Lewis and Clark Marathon in Missouri. I am pretty excited to run with the Dean and with Phil. No big runs though, just around 8-12 miles to get a solid base, then I'll throw some longer distances in. Quick Tip for all you runners, if you are allergic to poison ivy, don't run in the trails unless you want to get a cortizone shot in your rump bump.
August 26, 2006:
Brian came over to Bay and we ran a 5k downtown with the fam. Great morning and I am expecting to get out on the Lake and do some serious open water swimming today and tomorrow to get ready to swim across Lake Chautauqua in New York. Brian and I are going up to see our buddy Josh and do some water activities. The goal is to get around 8 miles in up there with a couple 2-4 mile swims leading up to it.
Side Note: My favorite pre-training snack is a GooBall. Send me an email and I'll send you my secret Recipe.
September 4, 2006:
The Chautauqua Lake swim was a success however I did not go as long as planned because we decided to spend the better of the day wakeboarding. Brian got a concussion from attempting to jump the wake and I wore a flesh colored speedo while Josh drove the boat and laughed. Look for some pictures soon to follow. Over the past week I have put in as much running as possible to prep for the marathon. Today I ran 17 miles through the west side of St. Louis.

September 17, 2006:
Today was the Lewis and Clark Marathon and it was a good time. A great day with nice scenery. It was great to run the marathon with Phil and Matt and also get to talk to the DEAN. At the end of the race Phil and I saw this dude that looked like bernie from Weekend at Bernies, I'll put the picture up. At the end of the race, I piggy backed Matt across the finish line. So other than a trip to the ER for Matt becoming Dehydrated it was very successful. I am looking forward to joining up with the master's swim team this week. I'll leave you with a quote I saw at mile 20 on the marathon..."Run like you stole something."
September 29, 2006:
Well, to start things off I got pulled over today on my bike for "reckless bicycling" by the chesterfield police on my way to work. The dude actually put on the lights and the siren. It was weird watching cars pass by staring at me, decked out in spandex, in front of the cruiser. I started my swim training program today and swam a few miles in the pool with a friend from work. Looking forward to trail running this weekend with phil and I's newly adopted Weimaraner. Feel free to send some chew toys or frizbees for Chase.
