Training News January - February 2007 |
January 1, 2007:
I wish I had some wicked good training updates but that's not the case. I got to run with the Dean when he came through St. Louis and it was a great time. He is definitely an inspiration. Picture are available here I have also added some new upcoming events for 2007 and it would be righteous if anyone would like to come out and race with me. Since the holidays have passed training will increase bigtime. Could someone please let me know if swimming in the Mississippi River would be a good idea? Just drop me a line.

First off, I am happy to announce that Swimthechannel.com will be collaborating with the Blazeman foundation to fight the War on ALS. I am very pleased to be associated with a very inspirational person. I am posting a few links of the site, so please check out his foundation's website out. I also want to thank everyone for their emails and donations, all of them are very inspiring and they push me to train harder.
Training is going well, but it is very tough to build endurance in the pool. So I've turned to running. I am looking to sign up for a 44 mile race in Kansas this April. Along with back to back marathon weekends in that same month. I am trying to set some realistic goals for this season. At the end of the summer I competing in my first open water distance swim in New York City, somewhere in the Hudson River (great).
Finally, I wanted to let everybody know we are in the process of making swim the channel T-shirts. They are going real cheap, so if you'd like one, shoot me an email and I will send one too you. Once again, thank you to everyone who is helping spread the word. Look for more news to come soon! I would love to hear from you all.

February 13, 2007:
I received an email from two Arizona Ironman finishers, a father and son from California, John and Keith Ryan. These two dudes were also inspired by Jon Blais and dominated the race in his honor. Since then, the Ryan family, which might I add seems to be the most fit family I have ever come in contact with, have created an Ironman of their own to raise money for ALS. http://ocblazeman.com/index.html So in June, I will be traveling with my little brother Matt to Orange County, Cali for some body surfing, corona drinking, and 140.6 miles of swimming, biking and running for the Blazeman. Needless to say I'm pumped. I will post their website, so give it a peek.
St. Louis has been getting pummeled with snow over the past week so snow shoeing it is.

February 25, 2007:
I sit here, just finishing a 3 hour training run with a smile on my face. Why you ask? because it was sunny and 65? Nope, today was 30, cloudy, and wind just around 40 mph. I guess the only reason is I'm finished.
About 2 hours into the run, I was cold, tired and struggling. From the corner of my eye I spotted a Starbucks roughly 2 blocks ahead. Picking up the pace and sprinting to the coffee house for a tasty brew and pastry. Jamming out to Pearl Jam I clicked off the ipod and headed through the door. Entering the Coffee house I received several crazy looks, and 1 of utter disgust. I thought to myself, what's wrong with these people? I'm only geeked out in sweet spandex, sweating profusely. As I order my small coffee and chocolate milk (horrible combination by the way) the woman helping me begins wiping her upper lip while she is serving me. And the people standing behind me are trying not to stare. It took all of 2 minutes to slam my cup of joe along with the kiddie sized choco milk. Venturing to the bathroom, I peered into the mirror and to my surprise I was "sporting" a frozen snot mustache. Laughing to myself, i cleaned up and headed out for the rest of the run. Looking exactly like Harry and Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber for the better half of my run was the highlight of me day.
